What Into the Okavango Is About
The Okavango Delta is one of the last untouched wetlands on the planet, and the rivers that feed it come down from the highlands of Angola. To establish where that river system begins and how badly it is threatened, a team sets out on a four-month expedition: three countries, unmapped country, rivers crossed by canoe. At the head of it is the conservation biologist Steve Boyes, alongside a guide who knows the river the way he knows his own past and a young scientist unsure of her future. Neil Gelinas's 2018 documentary for National Geographic is as much about who controls the water as it is about the landscape.
