Isaac

The film opens in Kaunas in 1941. A massacre takes place that day at the Lietūkis garage. An armed mob kills Jews. It happens in front of onlookers. A Lithuanian activist, Andrius Gluosnis, kills a man named Isaac. The story then jumps twenty three years forward. The year is 1964 and Lithuania is under Soviet rule. Gluosnis has lived with the guilt ever since. His old friend Gediminas comes back from America. The man has made a name as a writer and a director. His return is met with an official welcome. The two friends face each other again. There is a woman between them as well. The crime in the past lies underneath that relationship. The film is the first Lithuanian feature to deal directly with the part Lithuanians took in the Holocaust. The script was adapted from a novel by Antanas Škėma. Aleksas Kazanavičius and Severija Janušauskaitė appear in the hundred and four minute film, a Lithuanian and Ukrainian co-production Jurgis Matulevičius finished in 2019.
