Ivan

A young woman caught in the middle of a violent affair of corruption is forced into an impossible choice: between the man she loves to the point of obsession and her newborn son. The film does not build the choice as a moral test; it shows what pressures she is under and how her options are narrowed. The account does not explain the man and does not blame the woman. The presence of the baby stands in every scene as a physical weight. The detail of the corruption is not given; what matters is how it seeps into daily life. The events, set in Slovenia, are built in confined rooms and low light. Marusa Majer plays the lead in Janez Burger’s ninety minute Slovenian film, completed in 2017.
