Jan Palach

Jan Palach was a student in Prague. In the summer of 1968 Czechoslovakia was invaded. Soviet tanks crushed the Prague Spring. At first there was resistance in the country. Then came exhaustion and silence. People went back to their own lives. Palach cannot bear that. The film covers his last six months. It looks at his studies, his friends and his family. Those around him do not know what he is thinking. Quietly a decision takes shape in him. In January 1969 he set himself on fire in Prague. He did it in protest at the invasion. His death echoed through the country. Viktor Zavadil and Zuzana Bydžovská appear in the hundred and twenty four minute film, a Czech and Slovak co-production Robert Sedláček finished in 2018.
