Jinnah

The film tells the life of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, in flashbacks. In 1947 Jinnah wants a separate state for the Muslim minority; Lord Mountbatten resists it and negotiations with Gandhi and Nehru go on. From there the telling goes back to 1916, to the years when Jinnah entered Indian politics, and lays out how partition came about. Jamil Dehlavi's film caused argument because Christopher Lee plays Jinnah: circles in Pakistan objected to the casting of an actor associated with Dracula, and Lee received threats. The government withdrew its support during the production. The film never got a proper release in Pakistan. Lee said he considered the part his best work. Partition is told differently in each of the two countries.
