What John Doe: Vigilante Is About
The man known as John Doe has been convicted as a serial killer for punishing criminals himself. The film finds him in prison, talking to a documentary maker, and the more he explains the less clear it becomes what he did, why, and whether he regrets any of it. Outside, a group calling itself Speak for the Dead forms around him and turns him into a hero. Dolen is mostly curious about that second part: what a crowd does once the line between justice and revenge is gone.
