Jonaki

Jonaki is a woman in her eighties. She has come to the end of her life. From where she lies she goes back over her past. The account is built from what she remembers. The memories do not come in order but scattered. In her youth she had a love. The young man she loved was Christian. That relationship did not hold. Afterwards she was married off in an arranged match. The marriage brought her no happiness. The man she loved appears again, old now. The places look like something dreamed. The old mansions have decayed and filled with plants. Lolita Chatterjee and Jim Sarbh take the leads, with Ratnabali Bhattacharjee also in the cast, in Aditya Vikram Sengupta’s French, Indian and Singaporean coproduction of 2018.
