What Josep Is About
An animation of seventy-four minutes, and not one for children. February 1939: hundreds of thousands of Spanish Republicans flee Franco into France, and the French government's answer is to shut them in camps on the beaches. People build their own shelters, eat the horses that carried them out, and die by the hundred for lack of water and sanitation. In one of those camps a guard and a prisoner become friends across the wire. The prisoner is the cartoonist Josep Bartolí. The film is drawn in his own line. He later reached Mexico, and his relationship with Frida Kahlo is in the film too.
