Joshua Wong A Agnes Chow What Joshua: Teenager vs. Superpower Is About
At fourteen, Joshua Wong founded a student group called Scholarism against the introduction of a compulsory patriotic education course in Hong Kong's schools. The course was withdrawn. Then came the electoral system: in 2014 tens of thousands of young people occupied the streets, and umbrellas became the emblem of that movement. The documentary follows Wong's road from a school desk to a prison cell. Joe Piscatella's film screened at Sundance. Agnes Chow is among those who appear alongside Wong. The film takes Wong's side; Beijing's view and that of the Hong Kong administration come in indirectly, through statements from the other side.
