Jump Ashin!

Ashin grows up in Yilan as the standout talent on his school's gymnastics team. His mother is convinced nothing will come of it and pulls him off the team without telling him why. Out of the sport, Ashin helps at the family fruit stall, then falls in with a group of friends who get into street fights, and it escalates into trouble bigger than he can carry. The film comes out of the story of the director's own older brother, who works as a gymnastics coach today; Lin Yu-hsien had already made a documentary about the children his brother trained. That is why the gym scenes do not play like tournament cliché but like something seen by someone who knows the room. It stayed in Taiwanese cinemas for months in 2011, with Eddie Peng as Ashin.
