What Junction 48 Is About
Kareem, a Palestinian rapper, and Manar, his singer girlfriend, live in a neighbourhood where crime is everywhere and at the same time perform in the hip hop clubs of Tel Aviv. Music is both a living and a way of speaking for them, but wherever they take the stage the question of who they are becomes an issue. Music itself is no neutral ground either; even which language they sing in states a position. The film puts the conflict between Israel and Palestine in the background and speaks from inside daily life, leaving nobody an easy place to stand. Tamer Nafar plays the lead in Udi Aloni’s ninety seven minute film, completed in 2016.
