What Tokyo Tribe Is About
An alternate Tokyo carved up between street gangs holding a fragile truce. Merra, who leads the Wu-Ronz, allies with the gangster Buppa and starts a war, and when the wrong person dies every neighbourhood ends up on the same side. Sion Sono shot this as a musical rapped from beginning to end: the dialogue rhymes, the fights sit on the beat, and the opening tours the whole city in one long unbroken move. Adapted from Santa Inoue's manga. Excessive and often tasteless, entirely on purpose.
