Just Charlie

Charlie is fourteen and a good footballer. A big club wants to sign her, and her father treats the news as the finest moment of his life. But Charlie does not want to play. The boy she sees in the mirror is not her; she knows herself to be a girl and is afraid to say it. When she does, the house splits: her mother tries to understand, her father will not even hear it, and word goes round the town fast. Football turns into a choice between two lives. Rebekah Fortune directs, with Harry Gilby as Charlie. Ninety-seven minutes. The film tells the story of a trans teenager without making a sensation of it, and puts its weight on how long it takes a family to accept it.
