The Miseducation of Cameron Post

1993. Caught with her girlfriend, Cameron Post is sent by her Christian aunt to a conversion therapy centre called God's Promise. She becomes friends with Jane Fonda and Adam Red Eagle, and the three of them start questioning the camp's methods. Desiree Akhavan directed, from Emily M. Danforth's 2012 novel. Chloë Grace Moretz stars, with John Gallagher Jr., Sasha Lane and Jennifer Ehle in the cast. Filming began in New York State in November 2016. The budget was 900,000 dollars and the worldwide gross 2 million. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on 22 January 2018 and won the Grand Jury Prize in US Dramatic Competition, the festival's highest honour. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 86 percent, the consensus saying it tells its timely coming-of-age story with wit, compassion and an affecting overall generosity of spirit. Metacritic gives it 69. Who it is for: viewers who like quiet, unassuming independent films and coming-of-age stories. Who it is not for: anyone expecting confrontation and reckoning. The film does not try to tear the camp down; it shows the days inside it.
