Justin Morgan Had a Horse

Justin Morgan is a schoolteacher. The year is 1789 and the place is Vermont. He takes two horses in settlement of a debt. One of them is large and looks strong. The other is small and thin. Nobody expects anything of the smaller one, and Justin names him Figure. But the horse turns out to be unexpectedly tough. He pulls heavy loads and comes first in races. His name gets about the district quickly. Farmers want to race against him. The animal wins every time. In time his line is counted a breed of its own. The breed is given the name of his owner. The film was first shown on American television in two parts. Don Murray and R.G. Armstrong appear in the eighty eight minute film, an American production Hollingsworth Morse finished in 1972.
