K2: Siren of the Himalayas

The documentary follows a climb. The mountain is K2. K2 stands in the Karakoram range. The climb was made in the summer of 2009. That year fell on a particular anniversary. It was a hundred years since the landmark K2 expedition of 1909. That expedition had been led by the Duke of Abruzzi. The party is made up of experienced climbers. Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner is among them. So are Fabrizio Zangrilli, Jake Meyer and Chris Szymiec. The director went up with them. The film also looks at the history and the geography of the Karakoram, holding the danger of the climb and its stillness side by side. Dave Ohlson made the eighty minute documentary, an American production finished in 2012.
