Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi

Balaji Mohan's 2012 Tamil film follows Arun, who goes to Puducherry after his relationship ends. There he meets Cathy, the girlfriend of his friend John, and the closeness between them is misread by John. The idea is to describe how relationships fall apart as though giving a guide. The narrative proceeds by speaking directly to camera and the sections are titled; the instructive manner the title promises is deliberately mocking. It is Balaji Mohan's first feature, developed from his own short film. Siddharth and Amala Paul lead. The tone is light, and the register aimed at young urban Tamil audiences is its most distinctive feature. Who it's for: those who like Tamil romantic comedy. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a deep examination of relationships; the film keeps its observations at the level of jokes.
