Arunraja Kamaraj's 2018 Tamil film follows a village girl who wants to play cricket. Kousalya's father supports her, but the village, the wider family and the sporting institutions do not take women's cricket seriously and obstacles arise at every stage. The subject is that support alone is not enough. The father does everything and the structural obstacles in front of his daughter still do not fall; the narrative does not present this as a matter to be solved by individual determination. Aishwarya Rajesh leads and plays the cricket sequences herself. Sathyaraj plays the father. The narrative follows the sports film template and the final section is predictable; against that, the visibility of women's sport is treated openly. Who it's for: those who like Tamil sports drama and family narratives. Who it's not for: viewers expecting an unpredictable ending; the film follows the familiar path of the genre.
