Kandahar

3 August 1995. A Russian-crewed Il-76 cargo plane is intercepted over Afghanistan by a Taliban fighter and forced down at Kandahar. There are seven men aboard. They are held for more than a year. As the months go by, one of them gives in, one considers converting, and one keeps the engines serviceable on the pretext of maintaining the aircraft. In August 1996 they do the thing they have been planning: they escape in their own plane. Andrey Kavun directs; a hundred and three minutes, with Aleksandr Baluyev and Vladimir Mashkov in the cast. The film is built on the real incident, with names and some details changed.
