Karaoke

Meir and Tova are a long married couple living in a smart high rise in Tel Aviv. Itzik, who moves into the building, is a worldly bachelor who runs a modelling agency. The couple start going to his karaoke parties and are soon fixated on him, competing for his attention both with each other and with the other residents. The film gives the narrowness of middle age as comedy and never separates what is funny from what is sad. What the couple are actually competing for is not the neighbour but the sense of still being wanted by somebody. Sasson Gabai and Lior Ashkenazi appear in Moshe Rosenthal’s hundred and four minute Israeli film, completed in 2022.
