Ferdinand Weitel, a forklift driver, is in trouble: Arno von Mehling, an insurance agent with a real gift for selling, has got him to sign contracts in record amounts. Weitel walks the corridors of the insurance company trying to save what can be saved, and it happens to be Shrove Tuesday. The customer service and complaints department is in a festive mood and has no ear for him. Eventually the secretary Annerose Waguscheit takes pity and tells him about the evening’s carnival ball, the Dream Policy, where he is sure to find Mehling. Hanns Christian Muller directed, Gerhard Polt plays the lead, and what comes out is a bitter satire on the insurance business and a portrait of Bavarian society. It won the German Film Prize.
