Kho Gaye Hum Kahan

Three friends are living their twenties in Mumbai. When her relationship ends, Ahana starts following her former boyfriend online and cannot stop. Imaad does stand up and attaches himself to nobody; he talks to everyone he meets through his phone. Neil works at a gym and wants to open his own; he catches the interest of someone well known and tries to enter that world. The three share a flat and all three lie to each other. Arjun Varain Singh directs and wrote the screenplay with Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti. Ananya Panday, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Adarsh Gourav are in the cast. The subject is social media. The narrative uses it not as background but as a mechanism that directly determines what the characters do; who posts what, who follows whom and who hides what. Each of the three strands is built on a different dependence: a relationship, approval, and moving up a class. It was released on Netflix. Its best side is Neil's strand; class difference and inequality in the city are shown directly. Its limit is the resolution; the film is strong while setting the matter up and turns to formula in closing it, with the last section too tidy. Who it is for: viewers who like contemporary Indian urban drama and youth narratives. Who it is not for: none of the characters are likeable, the pacing is irregular, and the ending is simple.
