What Kidnapped for Christ Is About
Kate Logan went to the Dominican Republic as a young documentary maker and a believer, to film Escuela Caribe, a school run there by an American evangelical organisation. What she expected to find was a place helping teenagers in difficulty. What she filmed turned out to be something else: American teenagers taken from their homes, often without warning, and put through a behaviour modification regime run on near military lines. At the centre of the documentary is a straight A student sent there after telling his parents he is gay. Logan keeps questioning her own faith and what her camera is doing in that place, and the film gives room to the school's own defence of itself.
