Killer

Marat drives for a living in Almaty. He is the personal driver of a scientist. His life runs in a narrow and plain order. One day he hits a Mercedes in traffic. The owner wants the damage paid at once. Marat has no such money. He has to borrow. One debt brings another. At every step the weight on him grows. In the end he is asked to do something he would never have done. The film does not raise its voice about any of it. The scenes are short and there is little talk. The story is set in Kazakhstan in the nineties. The country was changing fast in those years. It took the Un Certain Regard prize at Cannes in 1998. Talgat Assetov and Roksana Abouova appear in the eighty minute film, a French, Kazakh and Swiss production Darezhan Omirbayev finished in 1998.
