Killing Cabos

Cabos, Jaime's boss and also the father of his girlfriend, collapses during an argument in the office, and Jaime and his friend Mudo, believing him dead, decide to hide the body. That same night an entirely different group is planning to kidnap Cabos for ransom. The two plans collide around the same car boot. Alejandro Lozano tells it by breaking up the chronology; events come not in order but as each person knows them, and the audience completes the picture at the end. It is among the known examples of the fast cutting and comic language that spread through Mexican cinema at the time. The story runs on coincidence and does not hide it. It was an unexpected box office success at home and a sequel followed. Who it is for: viewers who like black comedy and games with structure. Who it is not for: anyone looking for realism.
