What Kim Jong-un: The Unauthorized Biography Is About
The documentary travels through several countries looking for people who actually know Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea. The team reaches his schoolfriends and teachers in Switzerland, the family’s cook in Japan, and specialists who have worked on the subject in the United States and Asia; the portrait that emerges is of a man at the head of a system that runs a declared closeness to its people and an absolute repression at the same time. The ceremonies in which the leader is spoken of as a god and the state cult around him are shown as part of that picture. Anthony Dufour’s French television documentary works from testimony in a subject where sources are scarce, and it was broadcast in 2015.
