Naya Anindita's 2025 Indonesian film is about a relationship between two young people from different islands. Ode has come from Buton with large ambitions and wants to make a place for himself in Jakarta; Ade is from Bali and lives inside her family's order of faith and custom. The two become attached, but her family favours a man of the same faith, and the matter is caught between individual choice and family expectation. The film centres cultural difference within Indonesia itself, a subject not often treated in the country's love stories. It also uses distance as an obstacle: Ode's work in Jakarta shows how separation wears the relationship down. The tone is emotional and music is decisive inside the story. Who it's for: viewers who like Indonesian romantic drama. Who it's not for: anyone expecting a happy ending; the film resists one.
