What Kroos Is About
The documentary follows Toni Kroos closely, on the pitch and off it: the daily training at Real Madrid, the decision to leave Bayern Munich, winning the World Cup in 2014 and going out early in 2018. Kroos narrates much of it himself, and his family life is in the frame too. Manfred Oldenburg's 2019 film is trying to explain why a footballer this undemonstrative gets talked about so little. Gareth Bale, Luka Modrić, Sergio Ramos, Pep Guardiola and Florentino Pérez all speak. It is not a documentary hunting for sensation; the plainness the player chose for himself became the tone of the film.
