Kudumbasthan

Kudumbasthan is director Rajeshwar Kalisamy's feature debut, written with Prasanna Balachandran, shot in Coimbatore between December 2023 and March 2024 on a budget of 80 million rupees. The film opened on January 24, 2025, grossing roughly 250 million rupees worldwide and ranking among 2025's highest grossing Tamil films; it began streaming on ZEE5 in five languages on March 7, 2025. The story follows Naveen, unfairly fired from his job, trying to hide his unemployment from his wife and family; critics praised the film's strength as a core family drama while criticizing an inconsistent tone that swings between humor and serious themes like caste discrimination. Who it's for: anyone curious about a recent Tamil family drama that became an unexpected box office success as a director's low budget debut. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a consistently toned film, since critics found the shifts between humor and serious social themes uneven.
