Kuiba

In this world a creature called Kuiba is reborn every three hundred and thirty three years, bringing disaster each time, and each time gods and people combine to destroy it. The attempt in 1664 goes wrong: Kuiba lands inside the body of a boy named Manji, who knows nothing about it. Manji and his master, wanting to prove themselves, enlist in the army raised to fight Kuiba. Vasoon Animation's 2011 film is generally treated as Chinese animation's first serious attempt to build a high fantasy universe of its own. Against a budget of fifty five million yuan it took three and a half million, with only 387 cinemas willing to programme it on opening day. Sequels were made anyway.
