Lyudmila Artemeva What Lady Into Lassie Is About
Adapted from a well known story by Pushkin, the film tells of a love that begins as a girlish joke. Liza wants to get to know the young man from the neighbouring estate, but there is no way to do it because their fathers are not speaking. Her solution is simple: with the help of her loyal servant Nastya she dresses as a peasant girl and goes out to pick mushrooms in the wood the young man passes through. The longer the pretence holds the further both of them end up from where they expected to be, and the fathers making peace only tangles it further. Elena Korikova and Dmitriy Shcherbina appear in Aleksey Sakharov’s hundred and ten minute Russian film, completed in 1995.
