What Landscape After Battle Is About
The film opens on the chaotic freedom of the moment the camps are liberated: men grabbing food, changing their clothes, settling accounts with the guards they find alive. Then they are herded into other camps, because the Allies have not yet decided what to do with them. A young poet who cannot find his place in this new situation meets a stubborn Jewish girl who wants to run west with him, and he can neither meet her growing need for affection nor put down the hatred he is carrying. Andrzej Wajda adapted it from the stories of Tadeusz Borowski, with Daniel Olbrychski in the lead.
