Last Breath

Three saturation divers are working on a pipeline a hundred metres down in the North Sea. In a storm the ship's positioning system fails, the vessel drifts, and Chris Lemons's umbilical is severed. He is left on the seabed in the dark with five minutes of gas in his bailout tank, and roughly half an hour passes before the ship returns. The documentary is built from the accounts of the divers and the ship's crew, with real helmet cameras and vessel recordings, and because so much of it was recorded the reconstruction is kept minimal. Alex Parkinson's film also explains medically how the rescue was possible: cold water and blood saturated with pure oxygen. Knowing the outcome does not lower the tension. Who it is for: viewers interested in survival documentary and deep-sea work. Who it is not for: anyone claustrophobic or afraid of water.
