Last Child

Six months ago the son of Sungcheol and Misook drowned while saving a friend. The father wants his son remembered as a hero; the mother is looking for a way to keep standing. One day the man sees Kihyun, the boy who was saved, being beaten at school; he steps in, grows close to the boy and gives him work in his own shop. Just as the family begins to get used to the child they first felt anger towards, Kihyun tells them what he has been keeping back about their son’s death. Shin Dong-seok’s first film does not turn grief into a story of consolation and puts nobody anywhere easy. Choi Mu-sung and Kim Yeo-jin appear in the hundred and twenty three minute Korean film, completed in 2018.
