Lea

Herbert Strehlow is a man of fifty one. He makes his living restoring furniture. He lost his wife years ago. One day he comes across a young woman named Lea. Lea is twenty one. She has not spoken a word since childhood. Her silence dates from the day her father killed her mother. Herbert is startled when he sees her. She looks a great deal like his dead wife. The two of them marry. The marriage looks doomed from the start. Lea is afraid of the man and hates him. Herbert is hard and closed off himself. In time each enters the world of the other. What joins them is the loss each one carries. Lenka Vlasáková and Christian Redl appear in the hundred minute film, a Czech and German co-production Ivan Fíla finished in 1996.
