What Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man Is About
In January 2005 a concert dedicated to Leonard Cohen was given at the Sydney Opera House. Nick Cave, Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Jarvis Cocker, Beth Orton, Teddy Thompson and Cohen's own former backing singers took the stage, and everyone sang his songs. The documentary joins that night to what Cohen says himself: his childhood in Montreal, starting out in poetry, his fear of the stage, and the years he spent at a monastery on a mountain. Lian Lunson directed the film, shooting Cohen sitting and talking at home; even telling his own life he uses the same measured, dry voice. Concert and interview come in turns. At the end of the film Cohen sings one of his own songs with U2. The documentary screened at the Toronto Film Festival in 2005. The concert had been put together by Hal Willner.
