Let There Be Light

Milan works in Germany as a bricklayer. He comes home to Slovakia for Christmas. His wife Zuzka and their three children are waiting for him. Things at home are not as he left them. His eldest son Adam has joined a youth organisation. The group is far right and it carries weight in the town. The priest of the local church is part of the same arrangement. Meanwhile a classmate of Adam’s has taken his own life. People talk about the bullying the boy endured before his death. Whether Adam had a hand in it is not clear. Milan wants to find out. Every question he asks runs into the wall of the town. Silence suits everyone there. He has to choose between being a father and remaining part of the community. The film builds that choice without hurrying it. The Christmas preparations and the truth coming out move through the same house. Milan Ondrík and František Beleš appear in the eighty nine minute film, a Czech and Slovak co-production Marko Škop finished in 2019.
