Life is Fruity

Shuichi Tsubata, ninety, an architect, and his wife Hideko, eighty seven, live in the house he designed in Aichi. Their garden holds seventy kinds of vegetable and fifty kinds of fruit; their days pass with the soil, with cooking and with each other. As a young man Tsubata was put in charge of planning a new residential district and proposed houses that would live together with the natural environment, but his proposal was turned down for a faster and cheaper solution. Now he keeps that idea going on his own, in his own garden. The documentary sets a marriage of sixty five years beside an idea an architect never gave up. Kenshi Fushihara’s ninety one minute Japanese documentary was completed in 2017.
