What Lisboners Is About
The documentary follows migrants living in Lisbon. For many years the city was a place people left. That turned around at the end of the twentieth century. Hundreds of thousands came here to work. They came from Brazil, from Africa and from Eastern Europe. Many arrived from Ukraine, Moldova and Russia. Others came from China, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. The documentary looks at their daily life. Finding work and working conditions are shown. The question of the right to stay enters the film. Places of worship and associations appear as well. The camera offers no commentary from outside. People speak in their own languages. The film builds the city out of those voices. Sérgio Tréfaut directed the one hundred five minute documentary. It is a Portuguese production finished in 2004.
