What Little Blond Death Is About
The poet Valentijn Boecke runs into Mieke, who used to be his teacher. There is a short affair, Mieke turns out to be pregnant, and Valentijn walks out. But the child is born, and that is where the film actually begins: the man setting out to raise Mickey alone, in the middle of his own disordered life. Jean van de Velde adapted it from Boudewijn Büch's semi autobiographical novel of 1985, in which the narrator is Büch himself; the film changed the name. Antonie Kamerling plays Valentijn and Olivier Tuinier his son. It was the most watched Dutch film of its year and won the Golden Calf.
