Helmi is born in Tallinn in 1908. The place she is born in is a baron’s house. Her mother was an Estonian servant working there. Beyond that she knows nothing of her own past. She stays in the same house all her life. Over a century the house changes hands many times. First it becomes a German salon. Then it is turned into a museum of the revolution. After that it is used as a workers’ commune. Every period leaves its mark on the walls. Soldiers, gentlemen and foreigners pass along the same stairs. In that house Helmi grows up, loves and loses. Julius, the projectionist who lives a floor below, keeps close to her. When independence comes the house catches the eye of property dealers. Linda Tallinn and Ita Ever appear in the hundred and thirty five minute film, an Estonian production Hardi Volmer finished in 2013.
