What Living Out Loud Is About

Judith Moore finds out that fifteen years of marriage are over because her husband has been seeing a younger woman. She does not know what to do with herself; she makes plans, imagines things, carries none of it out. One night she goes to a club to hear the singer Liz Bailey and meets a woman with opinions about how to live. The same night a complete stranger kisses her. Then she notices Pat, the elevator operator in her building. Richard LaGravenese directs, with Holly Hunter as Judith, Danny DeVito as Pat and Queen Latifah as Liz. The screenplay draws loosely on Chekhov stories. Starting again is presented not as romantic deliverance but as a slow and clumsy process.
