What London Belongs to Me Is About
The film takes place in a large rented terrace house in central London, shared by several households, and covers the months between Christmas 1938 and September 1939. Percy Boon lives there with his mother; he means well, but he drifts into the company of gangsters and into a suspicion of murder. What the account is really about is not what happens to Percy but what it does to everyone in the house, each of them forced to work out where they stand. The dates are not an accident either, since there are only days left before the war begins. Richard Attenborough and Alastair Sim appear in Sidney Gilliat’s hundred and seven minute British film, completed in 1948.
