Loonies

Five people living in an old care home have to move out when the state of the building gets bad enough. Their doctor finds them another place, but the new institution is a closed one and the rules that hold there are nothing like what they are used to. The five have trouble fitting into the new order and try to go on living as they know how. The film does not mock them; it makes its comedy out of the difference between the rigidity of an institution and the way people actually are. It is a family film made to be watched together with children. The account does not paint the new institution as bad either; what is set up is a period of transition in which both sides have trouble understanding each other. Bobby Eerhart’s ninety minute Dutch film was completed in 2002.
