L'Oranais

Algeria has just won its independence and there is euphoria in the country. Djaffar and Hamid are close friends, and an open future lies in front of both of them. In the new order, work, position and responsibility are shared out. But one day betrayal comes between them and the two friends are separated. The film tells the years after independence not as a founding story but as a reckoning. The question of who came out ahead sits underneath the account. The hundred and twenty eight minutes are spread over many years. Lyes Salem both directed and acted, with Khaled Benaissa and Djemel Barek also in the cast, in the film, a joint Algerian and French production, completed in 2014.
