Love Across Time

Chelsea, an American, comes to England for work; she has to assess an old manor house for its value as property. In the cellar she notices strange lights and finds a portal of a kind. It shows her the end of the eighteenth century and Charles, who owned the manor then. Through an accident Charles crosses into the present and cannot get back. Brian Brough's film follows the familiar shape of the time-travel romantic comedy: the man from the past astonished by the present, the manners of two worlds colliding, and the bond that grows in between. Aubrey Reynolds plays Chelsea and Toby-Alexander Smith plays Charles. The production is small in scale and does not step outside the genre pattern; for its audience it is comfortable, predictable work.
