Thales Pan Chacon What Love Me Forever or Never Is About
Known in Portuguese as Eu Sei Que Vou Te Amar, Love Me Forever or Never is written and directed by Arnaldo Jabor, starring Fernanda Torres and Thales Pan Chacon as a couple playing a truth game that revisits their relationship's history, structured almost like a filmed psychoanalysis session. It competed for the Palme d'Or in the main competition at the 1986 Cannes Film Festival, where Torres, then 20 years old, won Best Actress, becoming the first Brazilian actress to receive that award. Who it's for: anyone curious about an intense two hander confined to a single location that won Best Actress at Cannes. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a sprawling, plot heavy film, since this rests almost entirely on dialogue and psychological confrontation.
