Love Untangled

A Korean teen comedy set in 1998. Park Se-ri is nineteen and the one great problem in her life is her hair. It is severely curly and she carries it as a defect; every school photograph, every encounter becomes a problem because of it. Her plan is simple: straighten the hair and straighten out her life with it. Then a transfer student arrives at the school and the plan falls apart. The humour comes from the period: the cassette culture of the late 1990s, hairdressing experiments, school uniforms and the television language of those years. The narrative uses them not as background decoration but to explain how the character sees herself. That is the central idea: she is trying to change because she does not like herself, and the film questions how far changing gets her. Shin Eun-soo plays Se-ri. Gong Myung and Cha Woo-min are in the cast. Namkoong Sun directed. It went straight to a streaming service in the summer of 2025. A light and enjoyable choice for anyone who likes Korean teen romance and period nostalgia. For a viewer looking for narrative depth, the film stays inside genre convention and holds few surprises.
