What Lucky Is About
Lucky is a boy of ten. He lived in a Zulu village in South Africa. He lost his mother to AIDS. He does not want to stay in the village. He hopes to go to school in the city. He travels to Durban. An uncle living there takes him in without much willingness. Nobody looks after the boy. He ends up on the street. He comes across an elderly Indian woman named Padma. She keeps her distance at the start. She lives alone. In time a bond forms between them. The film looks at lines of race and class through that bond.
