What Lynch Is About

An old man living in a remote village is killed, and six locals thought to be connected to it go on trial. When it emerges that the dead man had spent long stretches in prison and had been making life impossible for everyone around him, the case stops being a simple file. The families of the accused pull the village together in their defence, while everyone looking on from outside already has an answer in mind. Krzysztof Łukaszewicz's film starts from a real case in a Polish village in 2005, in which a man who had been threatening residents for years was killed by them. The director says he did not reconstruct the events literally and that the characters are fiction. The film proves nobody right: it does not defend a lynching, and it does not skip over the state having been absent for years either.
